Collection Archive IV - The Collector Fabrics

Archive IV The Collector Fabrics is a collection of upholstery fabrics by Morris & Co. Mainly influenced by textiles from the past and the East, it includes timeless designs that date back as far as the 19th-century. They are adaptations of stunning hand-woven carpets and wallpapers. Some of the original patterns can be found in Standen and in Wightwick Manor, the first having been decorated by William Morris, and the second being the home of the designer himself. The drawings that are used for this selection are mostly floral, with leaves, branches, flowers or thorny burrs; exotic fruits and birds complete the tableau here and there. In order to diversify those decorations, a mix of various techniques were used. Mostly very stylized, the models use strong curves, star and diamond forms as well as zigzagging shapes. Among the techniques and the influences that shaped this range, we can note the vase technique of Kirman, the Kilim or the Bollywood style.
