Collection Wardle Velvets

Wardle Velvets, a collection of velvets edited by Morris & Co, revisits old archives dating back to the end of the 19th century. The series takes its name from the collaboration between designer William Morris and dyer Thomas Wardle. Wardle, an advocate of natural dyes, was responsible for the textile printing of the wallpapers created by the Morris & Co craftsmen. In keeping with this history, all the designs are printed rather than woven. The range revives the works of the two men, from their first plain fabric to the various floral figures. The new designs stand out for their monochrome palette, while retaining the same intensity of colour. They imbue spaces with an elegance that is achieved by striking a balance between the sobriety of the colours and the brilliance of the fibres.
