Collection Archive III Prints

Archive III Prints is a fabric collection that gathers ancient designs by Morris & Co. They all take inspiration from archive documents, dating from between 1870 and WWI. Taking into consideration the era during which they were released, most of them used to be produced through traditional techniques, such as the block printing. The contemporary print technique mimics the effect of this ancient method through the adoption of subtle processes, such as the use of natural vegetable dyes. Most of the patterns are floral and were created among many others by Morris himself, by De Morgan who was strongly influenced by the former and J.H. Dearle who was the protégé of Morris. Thorny shrubs, leaf camouflage patterns or tulip flowers are depicted on cotton or on cotton blends. Influenced by Indian textiles or medieval tapestries, this range of textile uses softened tones for the sake of fidelity.
