House of Hackney was inspired by 17th-century Dutch paintings for the Umbra wallpaper, depicting peonies emerging from the shadows. The period coincides with the golden age of Baroque art, evoked here by the chiaroscuro contrast and the movement of the petals. The flowers are especially seductive for their look, inherited from surrealism and grotesque art. So much cultural richness enhances the spaces, in addition to the mystical appeal of the figures.
