Plate 180 Rug by Gunta Stölzl Christopher Farr

Recognized as a major innovator of textile design, Gunta Stölzl is a weaver and textile designer trained by Vassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee in particular. She played a fundamental role in the development of the Bauhaus textile workshop, for which she was the only women at the rank of master teacher. In an emancipatory approach through the abolition of the boundaries between art and crafts, she created a dyeing workshop, experimented with fibers and weaving techniques giving a new breath to the workshop placing it in the most successful Bauhaus department. Faithfully adapted from one of her drawings produced at the Bauhaus in the 1920s, Plate 180 illustrates the talent and modernity of a pioneering artist.
