The expertise of a great English fabric house It was in 1875 that Arthur Lasenby Liberty set up a small business in the style of an oriental bazar at 218a Regent Street, London. With a desire to breath new life into interior design and fashion, the Arthur Liberty collection was made up of fabrics, art objects and various ornaments. It was particularly attractive to Londoners seeking Japanese and Oriental influence. Becoming very successful in a short space of time, the bazar had to enlarge to satisfy the growing demand, especially for rugs and furniture.

Arthur Liberty, fabrics by the metre. In 1884, Arthur Liberty began a collaboration with Edward William Godwin, the founder of the Costume Society, with the goal of competing locally with fashion products imported from Paris. Liberty obtained a guarantee of quality, attributed by the Crown of Great Britain, and forged solid relationships with various British designers, among them the most famous spear-heads of Art Nouveau. Thus, many designs were created by William Morris for this brand.

Today, the brand continues its commitment to taking care over the quality of their creations. Furnishing fabrics by the metre, printed with abundant floral motifs and daring, colourful wallpapers are on sale on Etoffe.com.
