The incredible legacy of Charles Burger,
Since the middle of the 19th century, the Charles Burger house has built up an important collection of archives.
Mr Vidal, family member and antique dealer in Paris, has collected over the years hundreds of fabrics, patterns and designs which he has classified and carefully preserved.
Charles Burger is one of the last two custodians of the copper rolls of Mr Oberkampf, founder of a fabric factory in Jouy-en-Josas, where the toile de Jouy was made. The publishing house reissues the patterns of the fabrics available on different media, respecting the dimensions and printing techniques to maintain their authenticity and excellence.
We call toile de Jouy all printed canvases with patterns comprising characters. It also has a narrative side. In fact, often in the patterns found on a toile de Jouy, we draw scenes to set a backdrop and tell a story. There are almost always characters and / or animals, nature and architectural elements.
