Kariokas draws inspiration from the landscapes, flora and fauna of South America, rich in vibrant colours, light and poetry. Each design is conceived as a ‘contemporary mural’: a reimagined fragment of nature, blending watercolour, graphic reverie and elegance, which transforms walls into veritable horizons. The aesthetic is both rich and light. The design unfolds with fluidity and subtlety, playing on light, texture and colour. Kariokas invites us to view wall décor as a space for emotion.

Kariokas: emotion in panoramic landscapes

Founded in 2016 in Geneva by Pamina Saba del Pozzo, Kariokas aims to bring together contemporary design and South American influences. The name itself pays homage to the ‘cariocas’, the inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro, a symbol of the joyful and creative energy that permeates the brand’s entire universe. Kariokas initially focused on the design of wallpapers and textiles, before developing more complex technical materials, such as wall coverings made from sisal woven from cactus fibre, mounted on a non-woven backing for easy installation. This evolution demonstrates a desire to experiment with materials, combining aesthetics (textures, play of light) and functionality, whilst maintaining a production process designed to be bespoke: on-demand printing, the use of panoramic designs, and adaptation to both residential and commercial projects.

Kariokas folgt eindeutig dem Prinzip der verantwortungsvollen Materialauswahl und setzt dabei auf natürliche Trägermaterialien wie Sisal, ein nachhaltiges und nachwachsendes pflanzliches Material. Durch die Bevorzugung von rohen, strukturierten und wenig bearbeiteten Materialien versucht die Marke, ihren ökologischen Fußabdruck zu verringern und gleichzeitig einen authentischen und nachhaltigen Look zu betonen. Die Produktion auf Anfrage und der Verzicht auf große Lagerbestände tragen zu einer Anti-Verschwendungs-Strategie bei, die typisch für die hochwertige Wanddekorationsbranche ist, die sich am Slow Design orientieren möchte. Schließlich geht die auf Natur, Licht und Poesie ausgerichtete Markenidentität mit einem ethischen Ansatz einher: die Einführung einer gewissen Verletzlichkeit des Lebendigen in Innenräumen bei gleichzeitiger Unterstützung.
