With a Toile de Jouy print, this wallpaper produced by Charles Burger bears the name of Fragonard, master of rococo painting, known for is gallant and frivolous representations. The pattern of this wall covering draws romantic and pastoral scenes mixing characters, nature and architectural elements.
This design is the combination of two piece of works by François Boucher (1703-1770) now lost, "Chéri Mouton", engraved by Gaillard, and "Pensent-ils à ce mouton", engraved by Jourdan and Bonnefoy. The original Toile de Jouy was very successful in its time, it was frequently copied by lesser manufacturers.
