Plate 184 Rug by Gunta Stölzl Christopher Farr

Recognized as a major figure of the Bauhaus, Gunta Stölzl, weaver and textile designer, was the first woman to lead a workshop in this renowned establishment. Trained by Vassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Lyonel Feininger, she helped transform textile crafts into avant-garde art. Her ability to translate complex formal compositions into woven pieces, her knowledge of dyeing and industrial production combined with her curiosity and her taste for experimentation made the Bauhaus weaving workshop become one of the most successful department. Hand dyed and tufted, Plate 184 rug is faithfully adapted from a drawing the artist produced at the Bauhaus in the 1920s.
