Textile Art Through the Centuries

For over 200 years, Fischbacher has embodied excellence at the heart of the textile industry. Based in St. Gallen, Switzerland—a city with a textile heritage dating back to the 13th century—the company has maintained a family tradition since 1819. Six generations have passed through, driven by the same passion for the craft and in-depth expertise. Building on this longevity, Fischbacher designs pieces of remarkable finesse, both in terms of their quality and their aesthetic signature. Its influence now extends well beyond Switzerland, with locations in Germany, Japan, France, the Netherlands, and Italy.
The manufacturer is distinguished by its creations of interior fabrics, rugs, wallpapers, cushions, and decorative throws. It tirelessly pursues inventive exploration, never breaking the thread of its heritage. This requirement gives rise to a plurality of unique designs, which fit perfectly into refined, contemporary or timeless spaces. This visual richness is based on a careful selection of noble materials and a constant attention paid to sustainability.

For more than two centuries, Fischbacher 1819 has placed sustainability and social responsibility at the heart of its identity. As early as 2009, it launched BENU® Recycled, one of the first high-end collections of upholstery fabrics entirely designed from recycled materials, including post-consumer PET bottles and textile waste from the fashion industry. The brand subsequently developed ranges incorporating Seaqual® yarns made from upcycled marine plastics, contributing to ocean-cleanup initiatives carried out with local fishermen and NGOs.

For all its products, Fischbacher states that it ensures the manufacturing process significantly reduces CO₂ emissions and the use of natural resources compared with conventional production. The electricity used for production is covered 100% by hydropower, and the textiles are dyed, printed and finished in a CO₂-neutral manner, with ongoing efforts to reduce water consumption in dyeing processes. The brand also offers lines in organic cotton certified OEKO-TEX® Made in Green, with a traceable supply chain, while all its bed linen is certified OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

Fischbacher states that it guarantees secure and fairly paid jobs throughout its production chain and carefully selects its suppliers to ensure they meet its high quality and ethical standards. The house maintains long-standing collaborations with its partners and participates in community initiatives in favour of environmental sustainability. Its “made to last” approach aims to create products designed to endure beyond seasons, in order to limit waste and overconsumption.
