In response to the global changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain, the Arts and Crafts movement expanded and became Art Nouveau in France. William Morris, a manufacturer of furniture and objets d'art, illustrator and printer was one of the leading figures. Craftsmanship became of the utmost importance. Techniques like embroidery, tapestry and block printing, natural dyes and traditional looms were all given new life. Nature was the ultimate source of inspiration and organic curves and shapes took centre stage. Liberty and House of Hackney have been inspired by this movement to create some extraordinary furnishing fabrics.
