Decorative Arts relates more to craftsmanship as opposed to Fine Arts, and Art Deco as an artistic movement began around 1910. It developed in opposition to the organic forms of Art Nouveau and reached its peak in the 1920s. Order, geometry, the hedonistic spirit of the Roaring Twenties and the influence of Cubist painting were at the heart of this cultural wave that originated in France.

The film of The Great Gatsby is testament to the contemporary fascination for this era, when Hollywood became a "dream factory". This translates into a passion for wallpaper with geometric lines and metallic reflections.
