Plate 111 Rug by Gunta Stölzl Christopher Farr

Gunta Stölzl, weaver and textile designer, was the only woman to be a Bauhaus master. Pupil of Vassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Lyonel Feininger, she directed the textile workshop applying remarkably the ideas of modern art to weaving techniques. Her experimentation with fibers, meeting the need for industrial production combined with creative freedom, has placed her workshop as one of the most successful Bauhaus department and laid the foundations for textile design as we know it today. Hand dyed and tufted, Plate 111 rug is faithfully adapted from a drawing the artist produced at the Bauhaus in the 1920s, with an intact modernity.
