For over 60 years, Sunbrella has been designing high-performance textiles, with durability as a key focus of its approach.
The fabrics’ resistance to fading, wear and outdoor conditions is designed in particular to extend their lifespan and reduce the need for replacement. The brand also develops solutions incorporating recycled materials, notably through Sunbrella Renaissance yarns, which can contain up to 50% post-industrial recycled Sunbrella fibres. Sunbrella has also introduced the Recycle My Sunbrella programme, designed to collect certain used textiles and fabric offcuts in order to give them a second use.

The brand states that its manufacturing facilities divert more than 90% of their waste from landfill and are developing initiatives to reduce waste and water consumption. Its manufacturing facility in Anderson, South Carolina, is ISO 14001 certified for its environmental management system.
Sunbrella also uses solution-dyeing processes that help reduce wastewater compared with conventional dyeing processes.

Certain collections benefit from independent certifications such as GREENGUARD Gold and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, depending on the specific references. Sunbrella’s approach is therefore based on textile longevity, waste reduction, the progressive integration of recycled fibres and improvements to manufacturing processes. These commitments should nevertheless be considered on a collection-by-collection basis, as not all features and certifications apply to all Sunbrella textiles.
