Today, a pilgrimage city in India and home to numerous temples, Madurai lends its name to the cotton fabric of the same name created by Casal. The fabric is decorated with flowers and branches in exotic colors reminiscent of arabesques and paisley patterns. Their richly decorated petals are reminiscent of oriental designs made with henna powder.
