Homage to the Square Rug Christopher Farr

Josef Albers, painter, teacher and theoretitian of art, was a major Bauhaus figure where he had the status of Master. When the Bauhaus closed in 1933, he moved with his wife, the artist Anni Albers, to the United States where he continued his teaching career, including Yale University, while conducting a personal artistic work. His research on color is illustrated in a series of paintings called Homage to the Square during which he will perform nearly 2000 declinations. The rug, Homage to the Square is adapted from a 1951 oil on masonite painting faithfully restored with hand-dyed wool by Christopher Farr Editions in collaboration with the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation.
